Join us in this script inspired by the architecture of Braga!

Being from Braga, we always want to make known its best - not only to those who live here, but also to all who visit the city.

We want to show that there is memorable architecture, art, culture, creativity, spaces and leisure.

In Braga there is a past, there is a present and, above all, there is a great future.

So, after we have presented you with the best of our gastronomy, we have taken a tour of the Bimilenar City, we have presented the best that Braga has in terms of spaces and adventure, we will let you know the concert halls. more imposing and yet we have shown you the various ways to move today with a concept that aims not only to make known, but to live the city, we created a script inspired by the architecture of Braga.

1 - Stadium Axa

One of the most beautiful and original stadiums in the world is in Braga, is the Axa Stadium, designated as "The Quarry".

It is currently the stadium trodden by Sporting Clube de Braga. Worldwide, this work is known for its architecture, signed by architect Eduardo Souto Moura.

Those who visit it are not indifferent to the way the stadium engages in the rocky landscape of Monte Castro, that is, in fact, what stands out in the first glance.

However, the stadium has other interesting aspects, such as the only side benches, there are no benches behind the goalposts, which enhances the green landscape on one side and the imposing rock on the other.

According to Souto Moura "it is from the lateral perspective of a stadium that one should see football".

Also the roof, which is unique in the world, is one of the aspects to address because it excels for its originality, being supported by 68 steel cables. The lighting system was designed to focus all the light on the field, where the show takes place, sending the viewer to an old theater.

Sensitive to ecological issues, Axa Stadium has been prepared to take advantage of rainwater through the canopy and its 20% slope, which directs water to the quarry aqueducts. Subsequently, water is stored and treated to water the field and wash the benches.

2 - Mário Sequeira Gallery

A little further from the center of Braga, this gallery is recognized worldwide, but in Braga many are unaware of it.

The gallery building was designed by Carvalho Araújo, a renowned Braga architect.

This is a gallery of contemporary art that was once occupied by exhibitions of big names.

In architectural terms, it is considered interesting that the gallery has been inserted into the landscape and does not clash with the large garden of the house; also the large glass entrances are attractive as they make it possible to transition the visual space of the landscape from side to side without feeling the building as an obstacle to look at.

3 - Carandá Cultural Market

Returning to the architect Eduardo Souta Moura, we talk about his first project.

As a rule, everyone who visits the cultural market and appreciates architecture, for its peculiarity, love Souto Moura's requalification of the initial municipal market project that he also designed in the 1980s, converting a space that was abandoned into a new life.

The Carand´ cultural complex hosts several cultural entities, such as a music school and a dance school. In addition to the schools, the complex has a beautiful garden and the Colors of Tea tea room, which strives for the quality of the teas and their scones.

The space preserved the fish stalls of its former market and left the columns and stairs unfinished.

We can understand this as a provocation, a challenge to interpretation and what may again be born in this present cultural complex.

4 - GNRATION Space

We now look to the future of the city!

The former GNR barracks is now a space that aims to combine art, culture, science and technology.

The building, restored by architect Carvalho Araújo, is the new place of creativity in Braga, dedicated to the production and consumption of artistic activities, in order to attract and maximize talent and provide ideas and business.

An ambitious goal, but possible due to the enormity of the space that houses several spaces such as the courtyards and the Black Box, designed for the programming of shows; the incubator; the laboratory; the creative stores; rooms for associations; rooms for educational services; the cafeteria and the clubbing.

The outer courtyards deserve to be highlighted. They are lined with a living nature, which cut with the hardness of the building, creating a new perspective of facing the white walls.

5 - Tree of Life Chapel

The Tree of Life chapel was designed by architect André Cerejeira Fontes and his brother, from the Cerejeira Fontes studio.

Those who visit are delighted with the intricate simplicity of the chapel. Programmed in detail by the Cherry brothers, and idealized in detail, it is a perfect expression of the bible.

Nothing was left to chance, the chapel sought inspiration from a forest, and everything translated into a true architectural masterpiece where every corner, nook, play of light and simple accessories, some created by artisans, have a unique symbolism just the explanation. This place makes us feel truly integrated, not only in a work of architecture, but also in a spiritual perspective.

The chapel was built with 20 tons of wood, all fitted without nails. The play of light that the wooden bands allow makes the chapel a magical place, especially at the end of the day.

6 - 100th Page Bookstore

And as the Baroque style could not miss, we now speak of the friendly Bookstore.

Located in Casa Rolão, which is a work of André Soares, an architect who for many years did not see his work recognized, but who was later considered one of the greatest Baroque rococo master builders.

More than a bookstore, it is a place of refuge in the center of the city. Quiet, it's a great place to be with books. On sunny days you can enjoy your serene garden.

In addition to admiring the building, you can always accompany your reading with a drink or something to eat in the pleasant cafeteria that the bookstore exposes.
