The rehabilitation of an old house requires special care for its functional, aesthetic or constructive characteristics.
What everyone looks for when designing interior spaces is to get charming environments, but note that not only is that important, they also have to be comfortable.
To make the space unique you should always include the personality and character side of the person who inhabits it and of course, if you want a comfortable home you should select a practical and functional decoration.
Here we present two projects and see how it is possible to combine beauty and functionality.
NOARQ renovated a typical Portuguese house in Vila Nova de Famalicão. The architect added a suspended cabin over the entrance, which gave way to a wooden room.
The exterior has been renovated with a number of details, including the gate, the eaves and the window frames, all painted the same color as the hanging room - red.
Outside the house is a continuation to the sidewall support walls that back up the old farmhouse, now a garden. The shutter is opened by shy windows upstairs, while at the bottom a sequence of cattle cracks illuminates the current kitchen.
Inside, the architects have redesigned each building piece, creating a contrast between exterior and interior, from rustic to contemporary.

For this project, the designers completely changed the interior of each but also the patio and the facade, which now has new coverings and a different design.
Thus was the facade before undergoing a remodeling project. The façade was discolored and dirty and it was easy to see the complete abandonment of it. The blinds forced and badly closed and still the humidity of the walls.
After the intervention, the house looks like another! The shades of green decorate the new facade leaving behind the faded gray color we saw in the previous photo.
The new iron railings are of organic design and protect, besides the balcony, the upper windows. The balcony's protective grille is elegant in touch but not far from the previous model and style. The façade is now marked with horizontal stripes and a different design next to the roof and all the protection created with perforated bricks has been demolished.
Finally we enter the interior of the house and here too the differences are more than many. The interiors were found in this state and needed to be urgently renovated.
Attention to the incredible wooden beamed ceiling and vaulted areas that should undoubtedly be maintained and highlighted, reinforcing elements typical of other times and times. The entryway makes us suspect that the new interior will include a luxurious touch.
The seating area starts right outside the front door. An original light-colored flooring was chosen for the floor of this room, and as we will see later, it goes down the path to the kitchen.
The walls are painted gray, but several elements stand out in the space, balancing the dark and dark side. The color of the sofa, the ceiling, the curtains, and the various brightly finished elements such as the marroquin style mirror
Glass doors separate spaces spatially but not visually. The kitchen is entirely minimalist and its finishes are brilliant adding a lot of dynamism to this important space.
In the upper floor of the house is where the most private and intimate spaces meet. As on the lower floor, wood and dark colors were used again. A wall in the center of the space serves to support the headboard and of course, to separate the sleeping area from another space.
Do you have an idea what space will be like?
The countertop area with double sinks has been placed precisely on the wall separating the two spaces. In addition to being a big trend, installing the washbasins outside the bathroom creates a kind of toilet area that can be included next to the closet. The doors we see in the dark wall are sliding and inside is the toilet and bath area.
Again outside, we now see the back of the house - the courtyard vs garden. Prior to renovation, the walls were marked with past buildings and the garden was not a garden. Everything was in bad shape and in an advanced state of abandonment. The vegetation grew without any kind of control in terms of planning.
After remodeling, the garden is almost an oasis! In addition to being able to create an orderly and organized space, the designers placed a swimming pool, the ceramic paved area comes from the stairs of the house and the scattered signs on the lawn invite to know the remaining space.
