It is essential to find a balance between personal and professional life.

There are those who are working from home these days and, at the same time, are making efforts to take care of their children. Bringing the best of these two worlds together may not be an easy task, but the best is to try to take advantage of the situation and learn to manage the time between being productive and having fun with the little ones.

With that in mind, we enumerate a handful of fundamental aspects to consider in order to achieve the goals and balance in these two important fields of daily personal and professional life.

1 - Define the work area and offer incentives

Defining the home office area helps young people to understand that the space occupied by parents is important, and should not be invaded unless in situations of need. Of course, parents should not isolate themselves completely from children - they will have to find an area of the house where they can be concentrated, but always with an eye on what the youngest are doing.

Using goals and rewards for longer tasks (a drawing, homework, etc.) is a good strategy: be it making popcorn or even watching a movie, and so you also get quality time after work.

Doing physical activities at home with your children is also a good option.

2 - Use technology as a best friend for telecommuting and children

Giving the newest tools that lead them to draw on their imagination - paper, glue, crayons, markers, plasticine, etc. is always an excellent idea to put them to work on their own creativity, but it will not always keep them them focused. Using technology is a good way to keep them entertained while parents work from home: getting them to watch a movie or solve educational games on a tablet at home can be the solution to entertain them for a few hours. This while parents can also be working in a quieter area at home.

3 - Adapt shifts and use time wisely

The days will not always be productive, between the chores of the work itself and the attention requested by the children, sometimes there are issues that distract attention from the fundamental and make everything a little late. However, teleworking allows parents to control time in a way, and if the hours pass without anything progressing as they would like, it is always possible to take advantage of the night to make up for lost time.

Sleeping is always a good remedy to recover energy and concentration - and to avoid tantrums, in the case of the youngest.

4 - Face reality and start with serious conversation

Children are not always calm. Not even adults can do that, as there are always distractions - phone calls, emails, social networks, etc. Facing reality is fundamental: the fact that the parents are at home makes them the main element of attraction for their children. Having the children old enough to keep themselves busy, it is necessary to explain the situation right away, be it recurring or exceptional, and make it clear that there will be a time for everything: to let the parents work and thus be concentrated during the day with the minimum disruption.

In addition to play, assigning them tasks as if they were part of the team can help keep them focused and quiet while adults work. In one way or another, and according to the age of the little ones, it is advisable to establish these limits right from the first moment.

Creating a schedule or routine schedule with predefined tasks also helps, but in this case it should be passed on as fun and not as an obligation.

If they are already of school age, there is always the important issue of studies and homework, which more than an obligation, are a duty.

5 - Plan, adjust and improvise - and always stay calm

Teleworking requires discipline. Everything has to be planned, especially when there are children at home, since the little ones can easily change the plans and thus adapt to adjustments and improvisations. We have to think that some more complicated situations to manage can happen.

Some children have more fun alone than others, and some are also more impatient than others. But it is important to always take this factor of unpredictability into account, and that involves planning the best possible each day.

Last but not least, we must always remain calm. If parents can't, imagine children.
