Braga among the 20 cities nominated for Best European Destination in 2021

After being distinguished as the second Best European Destination in 2019, the organization's choice of Braga is due, affirms the Chamber of Braga, “due to the fact that, in addition to being one of the European destinations with the highest tourist growth in Europe, it has it was a city that quickly implemented several public health measures to protect its population against the covid-19 pandemic, having even been mentioned by the OECD as an example of good practices in this matter ”.

"To these factors are added the sustainable development of tourism in Braga and the distinction, by the European Commission, as one of the cities with the best quality of life and the happiest in Europe", adds the municipality, in a note sent to the press.

Under the motto “2000 Years, Um Destination”, Braga has a tourist offer that “appeals to different profiles of travelers and markets, combining history, youth, nature, spirituality, gastronomy, culture and innovation”, says the document.

Braga was recently recognized by Forbes as one of the best destinations to live and invest in Europe and is among the 10 most visited destinations by British, Brazilian, Spanish and American travelers on the EBD website in the last 12 months, among an offer of more than 300 destinations.

“Braga is the only national destination nominated to receive this distinction in 2021. The winning destination and the nominees benefit from an increase in the number of visitors and international visibility, which will help the recovery of the tourist sector in the city in the post-covid period. 19 ”, says the autarchy.

Created in 2009, European Best Destinations, an organization based in Brussels, promotes culture and tourism in Europe and has distinguished, since 2010, the most modern and attractive cities to visit in the European Union. This is considered the largest e-tourism event in Europe.
